An overall warmer Oregon vintage led to an early harvest of our Dundee estate Furioso Vineyard which started on August 31st. Unfavorable weather conditions at fruit set drastically lowered our crop for that year with an average yield of 1.6 tons per acre. Clusters were half their usual size and berries were small, leading to an amazing concentration and depth in the finished wine. This was perfect for creating a 2016 L’Altra as masculine as Pinot Noir can be. Medium purple in color, aromatically the wine is bursting with blueberry and blackberry fruit with a touch of earthiness and a hint of menthol. In the mouth, it is very structured, with powerful tannins and a refreshing acidity on the finish to complete this persuasive Pinot. Fire up your barbecues people, as our 2016 L’Altra demands to be paired with lamb shanks or even a juicy roast beef. This wine will cellar for over 10 years and we recommend decanting it if opened in its youth.
